How Long Should You Leave Between Skincare Steps?

In this fast paced world of skincare, finding the right routine can make such a difference to your everyday life. As the demand for ethical skincare continues to rise, we’re becoming more and more conscious about the products that we apply to our skin. However, one thing we often overlook is the aspect of timing between the different products. Sooo, we’re going to breakdown the art of layering.

But, what products should you use?

Before we dig in, let’s take a moment to appreciate the significance of ethical skincare. We, at Liha, prioritise sustainability and cruelty-free practices, and ingredients that are both kind to your skin and the environment. By choosing Liha, you’re not only caring for your skin but you’re also contributing to building a more sustainable and compassionate beauty industry.

The Art of Layering:

Ah, layering. One of the major aspects of an effective skincare routine. Whether you’re using a cleanser, toner, serum or moisturiser, the order in which you apply these products can impact their efficacy. However, equally important is the time you allow between each step.

Understanding Absorption Time:

All skincare products require a certain amount of time to be absorbed by the skin before applying the next one. The absorption time ensures that each product can work its magic without interference. Here’s a general guideline to help you navigate the intervals:

Cleanser

Apply a gentle cleanser and rinse it off, ensuring a clean canvas for the next steps. We highly recommend our Orinrin Cleansing Balm; it's a wonderful consistency and perfect for removing everyday debris.

Toner

Wait for about 30 seconds to a minute after applying toner. This allows it to balance your skin’s pH levels. We recommend finding a toner that suits your skin-type and isn't too harsh. Remember, toning is designed to help remove dead skin cells and keep your skin plump and gorgeous.

Serums and Treatments

Serums, especially containing potent ingredients, typically need around 1-2 minutes to be absorbed fully.

Moisturiser

Allow a few - perhaps 2-3 mins - for your moisturiser to penetrate your skin, providing hydration and sealing in the benefits of the previous products.

Sunscreen

If it’s a morning routine; sunscreen should always be applied last. Give this at least five minutes to settle before you apply make-up.

Nighttime Routine Adjustments:

For your evening, the intervals can be more flexible as you don’t have to worry about make-up application. However, allowing each product to absorb adequately is still crucial for optimal results.

Conclusion:

In the pursuit of a flawless complexion with ethical skincare brands, timing is everything. By understanding and respecting the absorption time of each product, you can elevate your skincare routine to new heights. Not only does this ensure that you're maximizing the benefits of each product, but it also reflects a mindful approach to self-care and a commitment to ethical beauty practices. So, the next time you indulge in your skincare ritual, remember – patience is a virtue, and in skincare, it's the key to radiant, healthy skin with a conscience.
